Nevada has some of the worst schools in the entire country. I am especially interested to see low-cost, high-quality schooling implemented in the poorer sections of Nevada who are often left behind by the current property tax allocation methods. Our teachers and students more than deserve it. I will push to repeal education laws that do not add to the education of our children, so less will be wasted in administration, red tape, and overhead.
Too many occupations are highly regulated. Occupational licenses create barriers to jobs. A landscape architect must complete four years of schooling/experience, pass an exam, and pay fees including a $200 annual fee. Licenses are also required for interior decorators, interpreters, and music therapists. Occupational licenses and regulations need to be reviewed, and deregulate those that do not affect public safety. .
In 2003, the legislature increased taxes by 833 million dollars. Enough to increase taxes by $2000 for a family of four. At the time, that was outrageous! In 2016, the Republican Governor and state legislature with a Republican majority outdid this with new taxes and tax increases of over a billion dollars, including the gross receipts tax that was overwhelmingly rejected by three-fourths of the voters. Tim Hagan will be the voice in the Senate to hold the line on taxes and work to reduce your tax burden.
Healthcare is too expensive! Some of us would almost rather face healthcare without health insurance than with it. For as much money as it costs, there are frustratingly too few doctors and clinics. Those who can’t afford healthcare are made to suffer until the issue is life threatening. Tim Hagan plans to address these issues by working with others to overhaul our healthcare system - including allowing health insurance to be purchaced across state lines.
Tim Hagan will use his engineering training and experience in solving problems to improve education and the ecomony.
